Government Relations : Legal Advisor From 2008-05 To Current Duties
Litigation and Case Management
- Identify matters of a litigious nature to investigate and/ or hand over to the office of the State Attorney
- Liaise with insurers, State Legal Advisors and Counsel in litigious and non-litigious matters
- Institute legal claims on behalf of the organization
- Process and manage legal claims on behalf of the organization
- Provision of legal advice to management and staff on litigious and non-litigious matters
- Attendance at, and participation in, pre-trial conferences
- Perusal and evaluation of documentary evidence
- Procurement, briefing and appointment of experts witnesses
- Attendance at pre-arbitration hearings
- Perusal and amendment of notices before filing at court
Legislation, Policy and Guidelines
- Legal research into compliance of legislation
- Draft legal opinions on compliance of legislation
- Identify gaps in policy provided for in legislation and commence process to amend the former
- Identify gaps in Legislation and advise affected parties within the Organisation
- Formulate, draft, interpret and comment on legislation and policy relative to function
- Administrate and distribute legislation in the event of changes such as amendments or repeals
- Draft Ministerial and Cabinet submissions as part of the formal legislative process
- Liaise with Provincial Departments and State Law Advisors in amendments to Legislation
- Compile opinions on legal compliance in line with Legislation
Programme Interaction and Advice
- Consult with Programme Managers as to compliance on relevant Regulations on ground-level
- Identify development areas in policies and procedures and communicate same to Programme Managers
- Formulate SOP’s in consultation with Programme Managers
- Provide input and guidance throughout the process in the Stewardship Programme
- Drafting of relevant submissions in consultation with respective directorates
General Legal Support
- Contracts negotiation with Third Parties, when required
- Drafting of agreements
- Vetting of agreements
- Management of Contracts, Service Level Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding
- Legal research into effective and efficient case management and matters directly affecting the organisation
- Drafting legal reports for submission to Top Management
- Draft professional, outcome-based, opinions with regard to matters affecting the organisation, after studying documents
- Update Legal Services Referral Protocol when required
- Conduct presentations at roadshows, awareness campaigns and knowledge exchange sessions
Quarterly Reporting: Contingencies
- Update and manage contingency register for submission to the Finance Department
- Submit quarterly reports to the Finance Department on pending litigation claims
