Service : owner manager From September 1986 To December 2005 Duties September 1986 Opened J&B Auto Services. Both a Service Station and Workshop. The petrol side of J&B Auto Services closed in 1993 when Trek Petroleum lease expired. Qualified as a wheel alignment technician and specialized in the Volkswagen brand. An accredited Avis Fleet Workshop and qualified in the maintenance of large fleets. i.e maintenance and refurbishment of fleet lease vehicles for resale through the car mall branches country wide. Branches dealt with were mainly Randburg, Isando and Roodepoort All vehicles sold at retail required an AA Certificate, a three-month guarantee and in some instances an extended warranty. All vehicles were backed by the Avis brand name. Business venture was closed in December 2005
As the Owner, was responsible for all aspects of running a small business. My responsibilities were as follows:
Dealing with queries at managerial level with all branch managers Attending meetings with managers of Avis Fleet Services when required. Dealing with all warranties within the Avis in-house Vistasure warranty policy. Involved in all aspects of the refurbishment of vehicles Liaison with the test station technical staff. Dealing with and solving problems on vehicles tested Supplying detailed quotations of work required. Sourcing and procurement of all spares Liaising with suppliers of spare parts. Managing all work done in workshop. Co-ordinating of all sub-let work in progress. Invoicing of all work completed and collecting payment. Managing and updating of stock requirements Maintaining cost effectiveness in all aspects of running a workshop. Producing and controlling of workshop budgets Customer liaison Monitoring market trends Appointing, training and motivating staff Working under pressure to meet set deadlines
Building - Construction : Operations Technical Manager From September 2007 To september2008 Duties Managing a complete technical support structure for a site operation Heading up a technical workforce of 48 people inclusive of local Nigerian and ex patriot technicians Procurement and scheduling of spares and equipment to the site on Bonny Island, where we are responsible for all dry earth works on the Train 7 Oil and Gas Project. Management of the workshop at base in Port Harcourt Management of stock and implementation of controls, both on site and at base Compilation of workshop-spares consumption reports. Submitting insurance reports for damages to equipment on site. Compiling investment requests for the purchase of new equipment. Equipment used is caterpillar bulldozers, excavators, wheel loaders and Volvo dump trucks (a 40- a 35)

Entertainment - Leisure : Workshop Manager From april 2005 To january 2006 Duties Workshop Manager at Waterworld, the largest marine workshop in Southern Africa. On a fixed term contract ending 31 January 2006. Managed a staff of 30 permanent employees Ran the workshop on the Marine side as a complete entity Exclusive agents for all B.R.P. products, Mercury, Mercruiser, Mariner and all Johnson-Evinrude outboard motors. Spent the last three months on the administrative side and was exposed to the Automate system, of which I am an efficient operator
