- The Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Technician will support the Design Mechanical Engineer in the design, detailing, and manufacturing execution of fluid transfer systems, including pumps, pipework, heavy-duty bases, skids, and pontoons used in dewatering and industrial applications.
- This role requires a hands-on individual who takes ownership of their work, ensures drawings are buildable, supports fabrication through inspections and quality checks, and acts as a go-to person between engineering and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Drawings & Documentation
Produce accurate manufacturing and assembly drawings from engineering concepts and layouts
Generate:
Fabrication drawings (plates, frames, pontoons, bases)
Assembly drawings
Part lists and BOMs
Apply practical manufacturing knowledge to ensure drawings are fit for fabrication, welding, and assembly
Maintain drawing revisions and document control
Manufacturing & Workshop Support
Act as the engineering point of contact for the workshop
Clarify drawings, tolerances, weld details, and materials during fabrication
Proactively identify design or manufacturing issues and propose solutions
Assist with shop-floor problem solving to keep projects moving
Inspection & Quality Control
Perform in-process inspections of manufactured components
Verify:
Dimensional accuracy
Weld quality (visual)
Material compliance
Flag non-conformances and assist with corrective actions
Support final inspection before delivery
Ownership & Responsibility
Take ownership of assigned projects, sub-assemblies, or systems
Ensure deliverables are completed on time and to required quality
Follow up on outstanding issues without needing constant supervision
Be the “go-to” person for assigned scopes of work
Engineering Support
Assist the Mechanical Design Engineer with:
Design iterations
Layout development
Standardisation of components and assemblies
Contribute to improving internal design and drawing standards
