Purpose of the job

  • The incumbent is responsible to undertake machining of components and parts on driven machinery in accordance with company  standards and specification.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities (NOT LIMITED TO)

  • Ensure quality standards and engineering standards are conformed to in accordance with engineering drawings.
  • Ensure product is compliant with company and Customer specific quality and engineering standards
  • Be able to work independently and make decisions in conjunction with the supervisor regarding tooling, jigs and fixtures.
  • Pre and final machining of components in accordance with specifications.
  • Follow departmental standards, both written and verbal.
  • Fully inspect work done according to specific requirements.
  • Read, analyze, understand, and follow engineering drawings
  • Read, understand, and follow instructions given on the production order.
  • Use specific engineering measuring equipment such as micrometers, Vernier’s etc.
  • Operate different machines, follow the safety standards, and use guards where applicable.
  • Any other reasonable work instructions to be followed.

Environmental, Safety and Health

  • Direct responsibility for the Health, Safety and Environment of all employees who either directly work in your area of control, or who visit the operational areas you are responsible for, either internal or external visitors.
  • Including full legal & company compliance in areas under your responsibility.
  • Develop a positive safety culture through the company Behavioral Safety Program.
  • Follow safety rules and regulations, attend safety meetings, and contribute towards having a safe work environment.

Qualifications/Experience and Knowledge Required

  • Detailed knowledge of the various machining practices including turning, milling, shaft grinding, drilling and marking off, experience required.
  • Sound knowledge of CNC and manual machining practices required experience in Siemens and Fanuc control an advantage
  • Qualified Trade Tested Fitter or Fitter/Turner

Decision accountability

  • Accountability for target achievement and report of work done KPI.
  • Health, safety and 5s LEAN principles
  • Overtime during peak load periods – mandatory, including weekend work required.
  • Shift work may be required.
  • Depending on product or process being performed the incumbent will be required to move from one work area to another within the factory without prior notice.
