Permanent - Design and Development Engineer (Mining/Screening Industry) - Ekurhuleni (East Rand) - South Africa

Responsible for leading product design, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives within the company.

Lead the design, development, prototyping, testing, and optimisation of new products, as well as the enhancement of existing product lines.

Take ownership of costing, quoting, and the preparation and verification of bills of materials (BOMs)

Analyse and interpret customer requirements, providing technically sound and commercially viable engineering solutions.

Drive cross-functional collaboration between sales, production, and toolroom to ensure efficient project execution and delivery.

Oversee and enforce quality control standards, including documentation and compliance with internal and customer requirements.

Conduct site visits, gather technical data, and provide on-site engineering support where required.

Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring adherence to deadlines, budgets, and performance targets.

Mentor and guide junior engineers and draftsmen, ensuring skills development and knowledge transfer within the team.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline .

Qualified and experienced draftsman with strong technical drawing capability.

Minimum 5–10 years’ relevant experience in a manufacturing or mining environment.

Proven leadership capability with experience managing projects and/or teams.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Effective communicator with the ability to engage at both technical and commercial levels.

High level of attention to detail, accountability, and the ability to perform under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.

Demonstrated expertise in product design, research and development within a manufacturing or mining-related environment.

Advanced proficiency in CAD design, technical drawings, and engineering calculations using SolidWorks.

Extensive experience with vibrating screens, panel systems, or similar screening products is strongly preferred.

Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including fabrication, casting, machining, and tooling, with the ability to optimize designs for manufacturability.

Proficient in ERP systems, including item creation, product structures, and material planning.
