Main Purpose of the Position:
The main objective of Technical Procurement Manager is to manage the organization’s sourcing of products and services, to align technical formulation requirements with technical purchasing, by ensuring that raw materials and packaging purchased are cost-effective, high quality, and compliant with safety and quality standards. Technical Procurement Manager bridges technical, chemical expertise with strategic raw materials sourcing, material selection, alternative raw material and raw material innovation. They are responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and purchasing raw materials to ensure production quality, consistency and cost efficiency. They act as a link between Quality Control, Production, Research & Development and Suppliers. The Technical Procurement Manager will be responsible for indirect procurement to support business operations.
Responsibilities:
Technical Evaluation and Sourcing:
Evaluating new raw materials, packaging and suppliers to determine suitability with paint formulations and qualifications of raw materials.
Reviewing supplier documentation such as Technical Data Sheets (TDS), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Certificates of Analysis (COA) to ensure compliance with product performance and quality standards.
Participate in supplier Selection by auditing potential suppliers for technical capability and reliability.
Participate on tender process and cost saving initiatives.
Support strategic sourcing decisions by providing technical support on material selection, substitution and raw material innovation opportunities
Collaboration and Technical Support:
Work closely with R&D and Quality Control team to source and approve alternative raw materials.
Liase with R&D and Quality Control when sourcing alternative suppliers to ensure quality control and specification is not compromised.
Participate in raw material cost reduction initiatives through benchmarking of raw materials prices across different suppliers.
Aligning procurement with formulation needs to maintain consistent paint and quality standards.
Acting as the link between production, R&D, Quality control and suppliers.
Collaborating with R&D and production to source cost-effective alternatives without compromising the technical quality of the paint.
Provide technical support to Procurement on pricing negotiations, RFQs and supplier negotiations.
Supply Chain and Cost Optimization:
Seek cost reduction initiatives by analysing raw material prices to identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising product quality.
Negotiating technical specifications, pricing, payment terms, SLA and contract terms with suppliers.
Balancing stock levels of raw materials and packaging to ensure production continuity.
Ensure timely raw materials and packaging availability to support production, OTIF and sales.
Create supplier scorecard to manage and monitor supplier performance.
Reduce raw material and packaging risk associated with suppliers’ performance
Support and participate in indirect procurement to support business operation.
Identifying and resolving supply chain disruptions affecting production.
Optimizing purchasing processes using ERP systems (SAP B1)
Identifying backup suppliers for critical raw materials to mitigate the impact of shortages, price volatility, or supply chain disruptions.
Regulatory Compliance and Safety:
Ensuring all purchased materials
Maintaining adherence to quality standards and ensuring documentation is for regulatory audits
Ensure compliance with business ethics standards.
Ensure compliance to ISO 9001:2015 standards
Manage direct and indirect spent of the business.
Management:
Responsible for implementation, update and manage procurement related procedures and policies.
Develop and manage team KPI’s to ensure they align to company’s strategy and objective
Manage and support BBBEE for the company
Gather market intelligence and raw material benchmarking
Manage onboarding of supplier process
Manage raw material spend to align to budget
