  • The Senior HR Officer is responsible for strengthening the HR function by providing advanced support across BBBEE verification, Employment Equity, recruitment, payroll, IR, and policy management.
  • This role works closely with, and acts as back‑up to, the HR Supervisor to ensure compliance, consistency, and effective HR operations across the Group.
  • The position requires strong organisational skills, emotional maturity, and the ability to manage sensitive employee matters fairly while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Key Role and Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the Group's BBBEE verification process end-to-end – data collection, scorecard management, documentation and liaison with verification agencies.
  • Attend Employment Equity (EE) committee meetings and act as the internal point of contact for the Group's external EE consultant, responding to queries timeously; manage and track progress against
  • EE targets, and submit the monthly EE staff movement report to the EE consultant and maintain the EE file.
  • Draft, review and update HR policies to remain aligned with current legislation and company
  • standards.
  • Draft employment contracts, letters of appointment, and termination documentation.
  • Issue verbal and written warnings and hold disciplinary discussions with employees; assist with evidence gathering and hearing preparation, escalating the chairing of formal disciplinary hearings to
  • the HR Supervisor and/or IR consultant.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment across the Group – drafting job adverts, sourcing, shortlisting, coordinating interviews, reference checks, drafting offers and onboarding.
  • Provide basic payroll support by processing and verifying payroll inputs and assisting with employee payroll queries on Sage or a similar payroll system. This includes reconciling employee timesheets against the clocking system, capturing verified data on Excel, and importing this information into the
  • payroll system to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Step in for the HR Supervisor during absences, covering day-to-day HR administration, payroll oversight and employee escalations.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date personnel files, disciplinary records and HR documentation across all divisions.
  • Responsible for completing all WC) documentation following workplace incidents and ensuring the full
  • Injury on Duty (IOD) process is managed and finalised in accordance with COIDA requirements.
  • Assist with ad hoc HR, EE and BBBEE-related projects as required.

Required Competency

  • Diploma in Human Resources Management or a related field (minimum requirement).
  • 4–5 years’ generalist HR experience with BBBEE and EE exposure
  • Proven experience managing or closely supporting a BBBEE verification process.
  • Solid working knowledge of the BCEA, LRA, EE Act, COIDA and BBBEE Codes of Good Practice.
  • Experience on Sage or a similar payroll system.
  • Demonstrated full-cycle recruitment experience, including shortlisting and interviewing.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Emotionally mature and even-tempered, able to handle sensitive employee matters fairly and confidentially.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and manage competing deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organisation.
  • Computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to travel to Group sites/branches as required.
