Reporting to:  Human Capital Manager

Job Purpose:

To provide strategic and operational leadership for the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) function by ensuring full compliance with applicable health, safety, environmental and occupational health legislation, company standards, GMP requirements and industry best practices. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining a proactive SHE culture, reducing workplace risks, preventing injuries and environmental incidents, promoting employee wellbeing, and ensuring sustainable business operations through effective governance, risk management and continuous improvement initiatives

The SHE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and continuously improving the organisation's SHE Management System to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental legislation, COIDA, Hazardous Chemical Agents Regulations, Pharmaceutical GMP requirements and company standards

The role provides strategic direction and oversight on occupational health, workplace safety, environmental management, contractor management, emergency preparedness, regulatory compliance, incident management and employee wellness programmes. The incumbent drives a culture of safety excellence, ensures audit readiness, manages SHE risks, and supports operational performance by integrating SHE requirements into all business activities

Key Job Outputs:

SHE Strategy & Governance
•          Develop and implement the site SHE strategy.
•          Establish SHE objectives and monitor performance.
•          Lead SHE committees and management reviews.
Regulatory Compliance & Audits
•          Ensure compliance with OHS Act, Environmental legislation, COIDA, GMP requirements and company standards.
•          Manage inspections and regulatory audits.
Risk Management & Incident Prevention
•          Lead risk assessments, hazard identification, behavioural safety programmes and preventative actions.
Incident Investigation & Corrective Actions
•          Investigate incidents, near misses and environmental events.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement CAPAs.
Occupational Health & Employee Wellness
•          Manage medical surveillance, occupational health programmes, wellness initiatives, IOD administration and return-to-work programmes.
Environmental Management & Sustainability
•          Monitor waste management, environmental impact, emissions, water and energy initiatives.
•          Ensure compliance with permits and licences.
EmergencyPreparedness & Business Continuity
•          Manage emergency response plans, evacuation drills, crisis response plans and fire prevention programmes.
SHE Training & Awareness
•          Develop and deliver SHE training programmes.
•          Ensure legal appointments and competency requirements remain current.
Leadershipand Team Management
•          Lead, coach, and develop the SHE team to ensure high levels of performance and service delivery.
•          Establish clear objectives, performance standards, and development plans for team members.
•          Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Adhoc
•          Perform any other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time, in line with the scope of the role, organisational requirements and the incumbent’s skills, qualifications and level of responsibility

Required Learning:

Degree or National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Risk Management or related field.

Registered with Saiosh (South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) or equivalent professional body

Minimum 8-10 years SHE experience within a manufacturing, FMCG or pharmaceutical environment.

•          Minimum 5 years in a SHE management role.
•          Experience managing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 systems.
•          Experience with occupational health programmes and environmental compliance.
•          Experience dealing with regulatory inspections and audits
